Tuesday was another packed day at the Cary Tennis Classic, featuring first-round matches across the men’s and women’s main draws, the second round of women’s qualifying, and the start of doubles play. A brief rain delay in the evening caused a short pause in the action but matches resumed within 30 minutes though several were eventually suspended due to darkness.

Off the court, the energy never dipped. A strong fan turnout kept the grounds buzzing, and two standout food trucks—Gonza Tacos y Tequila and The King of Ice Cream—were clear hits with the crowd. Gonza’s Colombian-style street tacos kept lines long all day, while the ice cream truck was a go-to stop for players and families as the evening wore on.

One of the day’s biggest moments came under the lights on Stadium Court, where 19-year-old American Kaylan Bigun earned a statement win over former World No. 17 and No. 9 seed Bernard Tomic, 6-4, 6-4. The 2024 Boys’ French Open Champion played with confidence and control throughout, showing exactly why he’s considered one of the brightest young Americans on tour.

Earlier in the day, NC State alum and No. 4 seed Alexis Galarneau held his nerve in a pair of tiebreaks to get past South Korea’s Hoyoung Roh, 7-6(2), 7-6(1) on Anthony Blackman Stadium Court. Galarneau looked sharp in key moments and fed off the home support throughout the match.

Brazilian Karue Sell, known just as much for his on-court game as his online presence, also advanced with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Naoki Nakagawa. Sell’s energy and charisma have made him a crowd favorite in Cary.

On the women’s side, 17-year-old Wakana Sonobe of Japan continued her impressive run through qualifying, taking out American Kayla Day, a former World No. 84, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. The 2025 Girls’ Australian Open Champion has been one of the standout performers of the week and heads into the main draw with confidence.

With several matches still unfinished and more top names on deck, Wednesday promises another full day of tennis. For schedules, draws, and ticket info, visithttps://carytennisclassic.com/.
