Before our quarterfinals 7pm feature match, a ceremony was held featuring Mayor, Town Council member Jack Smith, Co-Tournament Director Ted Reese, Former Chamber Chairman Steve Zaytoun, Chamber President Emeritus Howard Johnson, and current Chamber President Mark Lawson. Mayor Weinbrecht presented a resolution from the Cary Town Council that from this day forward, Stadium Court at Cary Tennis Park will be known as Anthony Blackman Stadium Court. A second presentation was made by Howard, Steve, Mark, and Ted about the formation of an NC Tennis Foundation endowment to honor Anthony Blackman’s legacy of service to his community and tennis. The endowment will be known as the Anthony Blackman Scholars and will provide two annual scholarships recognizing high school seniors who have made a difference in their tennis communities. To wrap up the ceremony, a new banner was unfurled on Stadium Court and Anthony’s wide, Beth, was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
