Cary, NC, August 12, 2024 – The women completed the qualifying today with Heather Watson, Ena Shibahara, Hina Inoue, Mananchaya Sawangkaew, Lucrezia Stefanini, Rebecca Marino, Taylah Preston, and Oksana Selekhmeteva all getting wins to earn a spot in the main draw.
Main draw women’s singles matches did start today with Alexandra Eala, Yuliia Starodubtseva, and Nuria Parrizas -Diaz all earning straight set wins to advance to the round of 16. In doubles Naef/Zidansek, Marino/Ponchet, and Gibson/Joint advanced to the quarterfinals.
On the men’s side, round of 32 singles play continued with Tristan Boyer, Nishesh Basavareddy, Asian Karatsev, Luca Van Assche, Mattia Bellucci, Kyrian Jacquet, Mikhail Kukushkin, and Hamad Medjedovic all advancing to the round of 16. Qualifier Mattia Bellucci took the #1 seed Roman Safiullin to 3 sets. Safiullin pulled out the win, saving eight break points.
Doubles play also started with King/Stalder, Pearson/Sheehy, and Kiger/Puttergill all earning wins in the first round of play.
